Boride has a high neutron absorption cross section and is commonly used as a neutron absorption material in nuclear reactors. Generally, boron carbide is used as the control material because of its characteristics such as high hardness, good wear resistance, low density, low melting point and strong neutron absorption ability. Boron carbide has become an excellent material for nuclear reactor control rods and shielding rods.
