The pressure-free sintering of B4C powder is mainly to improve the activation of grain boundary and volume diffusion by removing the oxide layer on the surface of B4C with additives and increasing the defect or dislocation density, so as to obtain a higher density (95~98%) at a slightly lower temperature (2100~2200).
The pressure-free sintered boron carbide products have simple process and low processing cost, and do not have too many requirements on sintering conditions. They are suitable for the production of products with complex shapes and large quantities of industrial production.
Due to the high sintering temperature, the grain is easy to grow abnormally, so that the sintering process is difficult to control, the product performance is not stable.
