The densification of pure boron carbide is difficult in pressure-free sintering. The main factors affecting the density of boron carbide ceramics are the sintering temperature and the powder size. The finer the powder size is, the faster the heating rate is, the more conducive to improving the density of ceramics. The increase of particle surface area and sintering temperature can promote the densification of sintering and produce a higher density (56%~71%).
The results show that the most important conditions for the densification of pure boron carbide by pressure-free sintering are the use of 3μm ultrafine powder with low oxygen content and the temperature range of 2250-2350℃
The main equipment required for pressure-free sintering is cold pressing machine and sintering furnace boron carbide ceramic pressure-free sintering commonly used molding methods have grouting molding molding molding gel injection molding cold isostatic pressing molding, etc
